Welcome to the Revolution

Hi there, welcome to my blog - La Revolution Deux. It's an odd name - but I like it! Here you will find all the info on my various DIY Guitar effects builds, amplifiers and guitars. Everything from a humble Ibanez tubescreamer to the holiest KLON Overdrive.

You may also find a few effects builds that I am looking to move on - usually in exchange for other effects/gear/cash. You can always check my ebay account to see what I've got up for grabs.

Have fun, enjoy the blog - Fred Briggs :-)

Feel free to get in contact with me about anything you see on this blog or with any general questions about guitars, amplifiers and effects, I'll be happy to answer! Just click the button above to email me directly or alternately my email address is fredbriggs2007 [at] googlemail [dot] com

Friedman - Brown Eye 100 BE-100

Check this schematic out for the critically acclaimed (and very popular with big stage acts!) Friedman BE-100.

It's a fairly standard hot-rodded Marshall design with a few interesting twists - the "Sat" clipping control off the cathode follower and the FX loop design (which I believe is the MetroAmps loop design).

Also check out the way the global negative feedback is applied - it's level changes depending on which impedance tap the amp is set to output to. This could be intentional OR it could be a layout error. I've checked this on a real BE-100 and it is actually wired like that!

  1. So if you select the 4 ohm tap you get less? Can you safely run that into an 8 ohm cab?

  2. hi, do you have the schematic of the zvex lo-fi loop junky ?

  3. Fred, do you have a bigger version of the schematic? I can't read anything...

    1. Roseblood11, i believe the link to the schematic is here

  4. Nice. Hey friend, please, could you help me? I have two questions:
    1) The schematic was verified? In the pictures of the Metroamp fx loop sold on internet i see at least 5 diodes;
    2) Do you know the specs of the transformers and the choke?
    Thanks a lot!
    Ricardo from Brazil

  5. Have you ever thought about creating an ebook or
guest authoring on other blogs? I have a blog based on the same information you discuss and would love to have you share some
stories/information. I know my visitors would appreciate your work.

If you're even remotely interested, feel free to send me an e mail.

  6. The FX-Loop will not work if you use a mono plug at the receive jack cause you'll get a short cut at the send jack.
Cut the connection between SEND and stereo jack pin R.
Connect the switch contact of the send jack with the pin R of the stereo jack.

  7. Hello, let's shake this thread alive:-)
I'm planning to build after this schematic. I have one question, why is V1B's cathod capacitor a Electrolyth?

  8. Hello, has anyone noticed how strange it is that the gain pot is AFTER the second gain stage in BE mode, I’ve never seen something like this before and can’t figure out if it’s accurate or not?
