Lovepedal - Les Lius


Here's the Lovepedal Les Lius Overdrive, built to emulate the classic light overdrive tones of the vintage Fender Amps. The Lovepedal site has this description:

"This handmade guitar pedal features a three way toggle switch that allows you to change tones from 5E3 Woody (Tweed Fender Deluxe), High Power Twin (50's Fender Twin) and Master Volume Tchula (combination of both the 5E3 Woody and the High Power Twin). The amount of gain is controlled by the first knob. The second knob is a second gain stage which emulates what happens when you crank one of these vintage low wattage amplifiers."

As you can see it's another variation of the Electra Overdrive (and the Lovepedal COT 50/Woodrow). The Jfet switching it uses for the boost function is unessary and can be replaced with a simple switch.

  1. I have a few questions about the Les Lius vero:

    - R4: is it between lugs 1 and 3 of the BST pot ?
    - The SW1 ("mode"): the yellow wire on the right, is it connected only to the top right lug of the switch, or top-right AND down-right ? the grey wire, is it connected only to the right middle lug or both middle lugs ?

  2. If the JFET is just replaced with a simple make/break switch it will pop like a goodun! It is necessary to make sure the pot end of C5 is kept at ground potential as you switch. C5 connects to the pot and R4 just as before but the lower end of the pot must then be permanently connected to ground with a high value resistor, anything above about 33k should do as it only has to be much bigger than the 330R emitter resistor so as to not affect the gain. The switch is then used to short out that resistor connecting the pot direct to ground for extra gain or leaving it in circuit in series with the pot for lower gain. If you want to dot all of the Is and cross all of the Ts you could even add a second resistor in series with the pot permanently to add the Rds of the JFET back in and prevent too much gain being added when the pot is set close to 0R. Something around 27R-56R should do.
